Hydrangea aspera J

In the early spring of 2013 my textile collages formed part of an exhibition at the Kyoto Municipal Art Gallery. I wished to create art that would both reflect Cornwall and be meaningful to a Japanese audience. Hydrangea aspera grows happily in Cornish woodland gardens and is native to Japan, so seemed a perfect choice. I have by hand-dyeing and cutting velvets and satins I have created the lace-like flower heads of this particularly ornate hydrangea.
